Mother's Day 2019

Oh Mother’s Day. You were intended to be a joyous holiday,  one to honor moms and everything that encompasses motherhood. But hidden in your good intention are trigger points, many…many…trigger points.

To the mom who celebrates with a piece of her heart in heaven

To the woman who yearns and prays numerous times a day to become a mommy

To the little girls and grown women who miss their mamas and would do anything to be able to celebrate with them…..together one more time

To the single moms who battle every day for your kids and for you

To the new moms, working moms, stay at home moms, moms to toddlers, teenagers, and grown children,  to mom swho battle mom guilt, who compete with Pinterest mom, who are Pinterest moms, who scream at their kids, and then cry when they are sleeping so sweetly

I mean come on…who knew one little three letter word that is the same front or back could engulf so many emotions. Maybe it is because motherhood is a dream but also oh so very trying at times.
If there was a job description for motherhood it may read:
  • Patience will be tested daily. Must be able to count to ten, walk away, and be ready to lose your shit multiple times a day.
  • Multitasking is essential. At one time it is not uncommon to juggle cleaning up poop off the floor, reheating yesterday’s chicken nuggets, directing kids to not play with knives, unclogging Mr. Frogger from the toilet, and putting on a bra.
  • Compassion and empathy will be utilized often. Be ready at all times to wipe a tear because you got the pink cup and not the blue one, be a shoulder to cry on when friends are mean at school, but also give yourself the same amount of grace you give your children.
  • Project coordinating experience preferred. Must be able to organize birthday parties, family and school calendars, school fundraisers, PTA meetings, and show and tell.
  • Expect love like you have never experienced. Love that is timeless, forever forgiving, so intense it hurts, it will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and it will drive you crazy.
Motherhood is hard for so many reasons. This Mother’s Day we pray for all women who face this “holiday” with anxiety, tears, and brokenness. We pray for all women celebrating this holiday as it was intended to be glorious and joyful.

Happy Mother’s Day from our family to yours
